SCENES from our WATERCOLOR WORKSHOP at Vallecito

The Durango 3-day watercolor workshop was held in August, at the Willson's beautiful home near Lake Vallecito, Colorado. It's been wonderful to return here, for the past 3 years, to visit and paint with my Southwest Colorado friends.

On DAY ONE we learned about Niki de Saint Phalle and her Nanas, and were inspired to paint, not only joyful women, but also Celtic knots, animal totems, and yoga cows.  We painted on Aquabord, un-painted with Q-tips, and embellished with gold-leaf markers.

On DAY TWO, we learned about Maria Sibylla Merian, and were inspired by her botanical illustrations.   We turned ours into color wheels!

The rest of the day was filled with Gustav Klimt, patterns, quilts and cloaks, faces, gold leaf pens and other markers.
