Behind-the-Scenes Look: WILD IRISES -- A Watercolor "Mosaic"

Here's a behind-the-scenes look at my newest painting.

I painted this on paper, with just a few lines, drawn in colored pencil.  I painted the rest, shape by shape, from the bottom up, as you can see.  No drawing, underpainting, masking, layering, or glazing, with this "mosaic" technique (different than what I'm used to).

I'm enjoying the process and results of painting this way, so I'm painting another one now.  This one is Indian Paintbrush & Lupines, with Aspen, (I'll have to work on that title -- haha) -- and is painted on cradled Aquabord.  (pix to follow)
